EUC Badminton and Water Polo start in Miskolc
The Opening Ceremony of European Universities Badminton and Water Polo Championships took place on 13 July 2023 in Miskolc at DVTK Arena.
The Ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Zita Horvath Rector of University of Miskolc, Zoltan Rakaczki member of the EUSA Executive Committee, Mr Gyorgy Kovacs Deputy Secretary General of the Hungarian University Sports Federation, and Technical Commission Vice Chair of EUSA, Peter Kapitany President of the Hungarian Badminton Federation, and Tibor Szopko - Deputy Mayor of Miskolc.
On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Zita Horvath, Rector of University of Miskolc.
EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr. Zoltan Rakaczki welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.
The competition is organised by the Hungarian University Sports Federation and University of Miskolc with the contribution of Miskolc University Athletics and Football Club.
Before the Opening Ceremony, the Badminton e Water Polo General Technical Meetings took place, hosting the draws for the competition.
The Organizing Committee (OC) has previously hosted EUC Basketball in 2017 and will be one of the organisers of the European Universities Games of 2024, co-hosted by Debrecen. You can find more information on the event’s official website.
Prior to the Opening Ceremony, in front of the event venue a Fun Zone was set up for the athletes and officials to get into the right team spirit.
The OC welcomed all teams to this joint event - everyone involved is looking forward to the development of the championship which has been carefully prepared. Best of luck to all participants and hope they enjoy their stay in the beautiful city of Miskolc and will see everyone during the European University Games in the summer of 2024.
The championships will take place from 13 July to 19 July - badminton matches will be played in DVTK Arena while the water polo games will be played at the Outdoor Bath of Ellipsum.
EUSA is represented by Mr. Zoltan Rakaczki Executive Committee Member, Mr. Gyorgy Kovacs Technical Commission Vice Chair, Ms. Eszter Gulyas Sports Officer, Ms. Cristina Kenely ESC Volunteer, Badminton Technical Delegate Mr. Radomir Jovovic and Water Polo Technical Delegate Mr. Gabor Vogel. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems. The water polo championship will host 7 men’s teams from 3 countries, while the badminton championship will host 16 universities from 11 countries.
The title of European Universities Badminton Champion is defended by University of Nottingham in women’s doubles, and University of Strasbourg in men’s doubles, while the water polo’s defending champion is Lodz University of Technology.
The next European University Badminton Championship will be hosted in Madrid, Spain, while the next European University Water Polo Championship will be hosted in Vukovar, Croatia.
