EUC Badminton 2010 getting ready
A few years after hosting the 2006 French Universities Badminton Championship, the City of Nancy (France) is ready to host the 7th European Universities Badminton Championship from June 15th to 20th 2010.
The Comité Régional du Sport Universitaire (local university sport governing body) has been chosen by EUSA to organize the tournament which will be the stage of hard badminton fights between a record-breaking 200 students coming from 15 different countries. University teams from Poland, England, Germany and Ukraine will be the most serious candidates for the six titles to be awarded: men and women singles, men and women doubles, mixed double and team competition.
It is worth noting that students won’t be competing for their countries but for their universities. Thus hard fights are expected between University of Lodz, Bath, Kharkov, etc. Overall there are 35 Universities, among which 21 will take part in the Team Event, that will be competing for the desired titles of Academic and Sport excellence.
Most exotic nations will be the Eastern Turkey (University of Anadolu), never missing a University event and the far Canada (University of Laval), which will come as a guest to take part in friendly matches against European Universities.
The competition level will be extremely high this year. It will be a test two months before the World Championship in Paris for many young players. Names that are well known from Badminton fans will be present in Nancy. Dmytro Zavadskyy, from Ukraine, will try to grab the men single title, but Presmyslaw Wacha will still be here to defend the title he won in Geneva last year.
The girls will also be fighting hard as Maria Diptan (last year runner up) and Olga Konon (last year winner) will come to France as front runners in the women single event. Big names like Olena Prus and Camilla Augustyn will probably be the top shuttlers to fight for the doubles titles.
Live results will be available on Badnet www.badnet.org and video streaming could be found on the event website www.eucbadminton2010.eu.
For those who could be around during the Championship time, it is possible to book tickets for the Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June. They are free but need to be booked by a simple e-mail at challenge@sport-u-lorraine.com. It’s not needed to book for the three previous days.
