EOC General Assembly in Zagreb elects new Executive Committee

At the 46th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), held on November 24 and 25 in Zagreb, Croatia, the delegates elected a new Executive Committee, lead by Mr Janez Kocijancic as its President.

On the invitation of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), EUSA delegation with its President Mr Adam Roczek, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik and Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, attended the opening of the Assembly. The 2-day Assembly was attended by the highest representatives of the National Olympic Committees in Europe, European Sport Federations, EOC partner Federations, IOC and representatives of EOC events organisers.

The General Assembly was opened with the welcome speech of the host, Mr Zlatko Matesa, President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and followed by the speeches of Mr Janez Kocijancic, EOC Acting President, Sheikh Ahmad Al Fadah Al Sabah, President of Association of the National Olympic Committees (ANOC), Mr Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Ms Janica Kostelic, Croatian Secretary of State for Sport.

In his address, Mr Kocijancic emphasized the importance of the European Games and the legacy that was created after the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan and underlined the importance of this event to continue and grow after the great event expected in Minsk, Belarus in 2019. After, Mr Zlatko Matesa was awarded with EOC Order of Merit.

The IOC President Mr Bach congratulated the organizers of the General Assembly and the EOC and highlighted the Anti-Doping policy, Fair Play and the importance of the sport community to work on protecting the clean athletes.

After the speeches and reports presented to the General Assembly, the delegates elected the new Executive Committee. Mr Janez Kocijancic from Slovenia was elected EOC President. EUSA representatives congratulated Mr Kocijancic and wished him and the newly elected Executive Committee best of luck and success for the upcoming mandate.
