Electoral Assembly and Gala held in Lithuania
Following the centennial celebrations of university sport in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Student Sports Association (LSSA) held their General Assembly and special Gala.
The General Assembly took place in the premises of the Lithuanian Student Sports Museum on November 28, during which Ms Indre Celkiene became the new President of the organisation. The long-time President Mr Ceslovas Garbaliauskas decided to retire from his position, so the Assembly elected the new President, and also a members of the Board. The Assembly also adopted a new version of the association's statutes. The new Board is lead by Ms Celkiene, and 6 members elected to the LSSA Board are Ms Raminta Kuktaite (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University), Ms Ramune Zilinskiene (Vilnius University), Ms Banga Balnaite – Stoniene (Klaipeda University), Mr Ramunas Butautas (Lithuanian Sport University), Mr Jonas Okunis and Mr Vladas Juknevicius (both Vytautas Magnus University).
On December 8, the honouring and awarding evening of the best Lithuanian student athletes of 2022 took place during a dedicated Gala. At the event, the best Lithuanian student-athletes were awarded, who made their Alma Mater and country famous in international sports arenas with their achievements. The event was also used to properly thank and honour the long-time president of LSSA, Mr Garbaliauskas, and introduce the new Board.
The best athlete of 2022 was swimmer Rūta Meilutytė, a 2nd-year student of Vytautas Magnus University. She in 2022 became the World and European champion, won bronze medals at the World and European championships, became the champion at the Lithuanian student swimming championship. The host of the event, Egidijus Stancikas, deservedly called the athlete the queen of swimming.
EUSA sincerely thanks the former long-term LSSA President, former EUSA Executive Committee member Mr Ceslovas Garbaliauskas for his invaluable contribution to the development of university sport in Lithuania, Europe and world-wide and with the new board, lead by Ms Indre Celkiene successful work and cooperation.
