EHF and EUSA meet virtually
The Sports Department of the European University Sports Association held a successful online meeting with the European Handball Federation (EHF) on Thursday, November 19, with productive discussions taking place between the two partner organisations.
EHF and EUSA have a longstanding relationship, sharing an official partnership since 2013 when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two organisations.
Last week’s meeting allowed both EUSA and the EHF to share their organisations’ updates, while informing each other of prospective events and comeptitions.
Present in the meeting on behalf of EUSA was Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, Assistant Sports Manager Mr Liam Smith and Sports Assistant Ms Lea Medvesek, with Ms Ivana Jelic in attendance from EHF Office. Joining the online meeting as well was EUSA TD for Handball and Beach Handball Ms Jelena Eric.
Following introductions from both federations, EUSA’s upcoming programme was discussed, following which an update was given regarding the fifth edition of the European Universities Games taking place in Belgrade, Serbia in July next year, where both Handball and Beach Handball have bene included on the sports programme for next year’s highly-anticipated Games.
Exciting to note for the Beach Handball players participating in the event in Belgrade is that next year’s event will take place in the newly-built beach arena in Ada Ciganlija, where the Beach Volleyball competition will also be held.
Upcoming milestones were then discussed, as dates for inspection visits, confirmation of venues and further meetings were agreed upon, after which the topic of conversation revolved around the current global COVID-19 pandemic, with possible adaptions and solutions to future events considered.
Both organisations will continually support and engage with each other in future events and activities while promoting both Handball and Beach Handball among students in Europe, with EUSA especially pleased to have the continued support from EHF with regards to the EHF young referees programme and court equipment.
Limited space is still available for both Handball and Beach Handball events at EUG2021, with registrations for next year’s competition in both the men’s and women’s tournaments currently open.
