EASL celebrates 25th anniversary in Estonia

In 2017, the Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASL) is celebrating its 25th anniversary. A special commemorative ceremony was held on September 23 in Tartu, attended by representatives of local and international university sport organisations, Estonian universities, ministries related to sport and higher education, as well as key figures and athletes.

Within the award and jubilee ceremony successful university athletes, cooperation partners, associations and people with long-standing reputable service as part of EASL journey have been awarded.

The participants were addressed and welcomed by EASL President Mr Ants Veetousme and Secretary General Mr Tarmo Jaakson. Reverence was given from Juhan Mettis, 2017 Universiade Silver medallist in Men’s Open Weight Judo.

Representatives of key partner organisations congratulated EASL for the anniversary, wishing them all the best and expressing their hopes for successful future of the federation.

On behalf of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), Mr Kemal Tamer as the senior Vice-President addressed the participants and handed out a present to EASL President Mr Veetousme to commemorate the occasion.

As part of the event, a flush exhibition celebrating 25 years of EASL was also opened in the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum in Tartu.

EASL anniversary dinner

The evening concluded in a local restaurant with a lovely dinner, including the anniversary cake. EUSA Executive Committee members also attended the event.

Anniversary cake was cut by famous athletes

Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASL) this year organised several events; Estonian student championship and student games, trainings and other events, including the celebration of the International Day of University Sport (IDUS), European Week of Sport (EWOS), hosting also the EUSA Executive Committee meeting. Celebrations will continue also with other activities and events in the year, as well with hosting the SELL Games next year.
