Double victory end for Beach Handball in Malaga
The Beach Handball Championship, as one of the sports in this years European Universities Beach Sports Chamionship has finally concluded on September 23rd with an exciting Closing Ceremony in "Zona deportiva Ferrara" in Torrox in Malaga.
Around 240 participants from coming from 14 universities from 11 countries. took part in this year’s edition of the event.
Exciting matches on the beautiful beach court in Torrox in Malaga, great energy, sporting spirit, dominated by fair play and fun, was what marked this Beach Handball competition this year.
At the Closing Ceremony, Mr José Manuel Fernández Nieto, Councillor for sports, youth and historical center from Torrox and Ms Ivana Ertlova, EUSA SCAC Chair for Beach Handball, congratulated all the participants for the great results and thanked them for the participation.
On behalf of EUSA, Ms Ivana Ertlova, gave a special token of appreciation to all volunteers involved and thanked them for all the hard work done throughout the championship.
In men’s finals, the title of champion/s went to University of Malaga (ESP) who won a thrilling final match against the University of Zagreb (CRO). The bronze medal was for University of Bordeaux (FRA).
In women’s finals, the title of champion/s went in the hands of University of Malaga (ESP) again who won an exciting final match against Karoli Gaspar University of the Reformed Church (HUN). Third place on the podium was reserved for University of Zagreb (CRO).

Councillor for sports, youth and historical center from Torrox, Mr Emilio Fernández Rodríguez Deputy Vice Rector for Sports of University of Malaga and Ms Ivana Ertlova EUSA SCAC Chair for Beach Handball and Mr Bruno Baracossa, EUSA SCAC Chair for Beach Volleyball.
The individual awards were presented by Ms Jelena Eric, EUSA Technical Delegate for Beach Handball and Ms Gabriela Horvath EHF Chairwoman and EHF Executive Committee Member.

In the women’s competition, the fair-play award was given to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, while, the top-scorer award was given to Malena Diaz Coppens from University of Malaga. The MVP award was given to Vajda Luca Karoly from Karoli Gaspar University of the Reformed Church and the Best Goalkeeper was Johana Wiethoff from Karlshruhe Institute of Technology.
Concerning to the men’s competition, the fair-play award was given to University of Lisbon. The top-scorer award was given to Martin Ruiz Pablo from University of Malaga, the MVP award was given to Antoine Miranda Sirvent from University of Malaga and the Best goalkeeper of the championship was Lucas Pegurier- Boiron from University of Bordeaux.
The competition was very energetic and with a lot of the fair-play spirit was always present. The Championship made it possible for a lot of people to get out of their comfort zone and experience new things and, above all, make unforgettable memories on the great sand courts in Torrox. The satisfaction and the great results were just another sign of the successful Beach Handball championship in Malaga.
The next Beach Handball competition will be part of the sports programme at the European Universities Games in Debrecen-Miskolc 2024, so we invite all the athletes to join and compete, next year.
