December 5 - International Volunteer Day
Today, December 5 is the International Volunteer Day, honouring the volunteers and their work. The date has been marked by the United Nations since 1985 and it offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make their contributions - at local, national and international levels - more visible and to encourage others to take part.
The European University Sports Association (EUSA) would like to take this occasion and thank all the volunteers for their work. Volunteering is one of the core values of EUSA, having all governing and other bodies work on volunteer level, including the Executive Committee as the board of the organisation, various Commissions and working bodies, including the Technical Commission, Medical Commission, Media and Communication Commission, Student Commission, Educational Services Commission.
Our special thanks also goes to all the volunteers who make our events happen; the local and international volunteers, as well as those joining us for the EVS service. We will soon be launching new opportunities for student volunteers, so stay tuned!
In 2013, the International Volunteer Day is held under the slogan “Young. Global. Active.” and not only celebrates and recognizes volunteerism in all its facets, but also pays special tribute to the contribution of youth volunteers in global peace and sustainable human development.
