On Thursday, 27 May, the Croatian Academic Sports Federation held their annual university sport awards ceremony, celebrating the successes within university sport over the past two years.

The ceremony, which took place alongside well-known monuments in the country’s capital city Zagreb, recognised the efforts and achievements of athletes, coaches, volunteers and teachers, for both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

The event brought together officials from different sport codes, political representatives, members of the community of Croatian and international university sports, as well as laureates.

Selected notable winners included University of Zagreb’s beach volleyball team who were named 2019/20 Women’s Team of the Year and University of Zagreb’s basketball team who were winners of the 2019/20 Men’s Team of the Year, while the university also produced the year’s best athletes in Andrea Simara (handball) and Ante Zuzul (basketball).



The University of Zagreb also dominated the same categories in the awards handed out for the 2018/19 season, with the table tennis team being named 2018/19 Women’s Team of the Year, the beach handball team winning the Men’s Team of the Year, and Lucija Lesjak (karate) and Karlo Raguz (karate) winning the best athlete of the year accolades respectively.
