Cooperation between University Sport and Student Union in Hungary

The National Union of Students (NUSH) and Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF) signed an agreement on February 27, 2016. NUSH is going to support and promote such events like Budapest University Sport Day on September 20 - UNESCO International Day of University Sport, “Sports for All” and “Move on” nationwide university student leisure activity campaigns.

The President of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF), prof. dr. Ádám Kiss and the President of the National Union of Students in Hungary (NUSH), Mr Tibor Gulyás signed an agreement aiming at university sport development and health promotion. The ceremony was held as part of the NUSH General Assembly hosted by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Participants of the General Assembly uniformly supported the initiative which ensures the strategic cooperation of the two organizations.

According to the agreement the main goal of both organizations is the increment of the physical activity of higher education students according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation - a weekly minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity. By 2020 the physical activity of at least 50% of the students should comply with the WHO recommendation. In order to achieve the goals set in the agreement, the “Sport for All” activity of both organizations will be harmonized, the already existing SportPoint system will be developed by the implementation of the “Move On” campaign which propagates sports with an online voucher system.

It is of great importance that both organizations support the preparation of sport days at universities as well as the organization of the Budapest University Sport Day on September 20 as part of the UNESCO International Day of University Sport, coordinated by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). They will also continue their cooperation in organizing sports programs of the annual EFOTT Festival and the sports popularizing road-shows of the freshmen’s week at universities.

Every year, latest until March 31 an action plan will be developed, contributing to the development of university sport and the health-conscious attitude of the students.
