EUSA SYMPOSIUM 2002

Lefkosia, Cyprus: April 19 - April 24 2002

The word SYMPOSIUM is an ancient Greek word meaning "a gathering of people to eat and drink together, discuss some (philosophical) topics and have a good time". The ancient Greek philosopher Plato wrote a book, named "The Symposium", in which he describes such a gathering of Athenians to discuss life with their teacher Socrates.

The first EUSA Symposium had the same philosophy. It brought together students and teachers from European Universities to discuss matters of common interest to them, and at the same time en-joy themselves in the Mediterranean sun, without the formalities of a scientific meeting.

The main theme was "Modern trends in European University Sports", with topics:

  • Management of University Sports: The role of professionals and volunteers,
  • The contribution of Sports in the development of Youth - University Sports in Europe.
