Coimbra welcomes EUSA Executive Committee

Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) are visiting Coimbra, Portugal - the host city of the European Universities Games 2018 - between November 27 and 30, 2014. The EUSA representatives were welcomed in Coimbra by the Organising Committee of the European Universities Games Coimbra 20118 and the Portuguese Academic Federation of University Sport (FADU).

Special reception for participants was held at the City Hall, hosted by the Mayor of Coimbra Mr Manuel Machado.

Mr Machado expressed his happiness that Coimbra will be able to host the 4th edition of the largest European multi-sport student event in 2018, and assured the support of the city. EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek thanked the Mayor for his hospitality and expressed happiness for the support of the city for the Games.

The EUSA family was also welcomed by the Rector of the University of Coimbra prof. dr. Joao Gabriel Silva who welcomed the guests at the main rectorate complex, which is under the UNESCO heritage protection programme. As one of the oldest universities in Europe, University of Coimbra and the Student Organisation of the University are strong partners of the Games, supporting the idea and philosophy of the event.

EUSA President stressed the importance of the support of the University, and thanked the Rector for the support and engagement in the Games and the current meeting.

FADU President Ms Filipa Godinho also thanked EUSA for constant support, and presented Mr Roczek a FADU plaquette. Mr Roczek thanked Ms Godinho, stressing that FADU is one of the most active member associations in EUSA and that University Sports benefits greately from such active organisations.

The participants were also able to enjoy the tour of the University, including the historic library of the University.

The EUSA Executive Committee meeting is taking place on Friday and Saturday, with a full agenda, among which the European Universities Championships 2017 will be attributed.
