European Universities Table Tennis Championship
Olomouc, Czech Republic: June 20-25, 2017
The European Universities Table Tennis Championship 2017 was held in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Hosting 6 competitions through singles, doubles, and team events with 130 participants present, representing 28 European universities from 13 countries.
The championship was organised by the Palacky University Olomouc and by the Czech University Sports Association (CAUS), with the support of Olomouc Region, City of Olomouc, several other local partners and the European Table Tennis Union. The organising committee has already successfully organised the European Universities Table Tennis Championship in 2007, in the nearby town of Ostrava. Since then, the organisers were involved in several other table tennis events at regional, national and international level.
EUSA was officially represented by Mr Andrzej Hrehorowicz and by the EUSA Technical Delegate Mr Matija Krnc, assisted by Ekaterina Ovysyannikova. The team was also supported by EUSA office staff Mr Liam Smith and Ms Matilde Guido.
In the men’s and women’s team competition the gold medal was awarded to the Angelus Siesius State School of Higher Vocational Education in Walbrzych (POL) and to the Kazan Innovative University named after V.g. Timiryasov (RUS), respectively. The same universities also won the men and women singles, respectively with Robert Floras (POL) and Anna Blazhko (RUS), gaining the gold medals in the two singles categories.
In the women’s doubles completion the first place was conquered by Sandra Wabik and Paulina Nowacka representing the University school of Physical Education in Wroclaw (POL). Where as in the men doubles, the Angelus Siesius State School of Higher Vocational Education in Walbrzych (POL) gained another gold, with the duo Robert Floras and Pawel Fertikowski winning the final game.
The next European Universities Table Tennis Championship will take place in Camerino, Italy, in 2019, and Table Tennis will also be one of the sports included in the European Universities Games 2018, which will be held in Coimbra, Portugal.
