Campaign for European Week of Sport 2017 launched

June 23 is the Olympic Day, celebrated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the sports world around the globe.

It is no coincidence that the European Commission decided to officially launch the campaign for the European Week of Sport under the #beactive tag today.

#beactive - even if you start small

The European Week of Sport takes place annually September 23-30, promoting sport and physical activity across Europe. The Week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, it aims to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Mr Tibor Navracsics met with ambassadors of the European Week of Sport and the #beactive campaign earlier this week, thanking them for their commitments and encouragement to engaging more Europeans in sports and physical activities.

“Get active on #OlympicDay” is the message from the international sports movement for today, and the European University Sports Association, as one of the official partners of the European Week of Sport, pledges to continue promoting the #beactive campaign and the European Week of Sport.

The 2017 edition will officially kick off in Tartu, Estonia on September 23, and EUSA Executive Committee and Staff will be there as well, taking part in sports, as well as educational activities. We are also organising European Universities Championships during the official period of the week, and will offer additional sporting activities to the participants and spectators.
