#BeActive Awards 2021

The European Commission organised a solemn ceremony with Gala for the #BeActive awards for 2021 on November 29.

Opening speeches were made on behalf of the European Commission by Ms Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and on behalf of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union Ms Simona Kustec, Minister of Education, Science and Sport. They reflected on the impressive activation of Europeans across the continent, inviting everyone to #BeActive and also stressed the importance of the new initiative #Healthylifestyle4all.

Before announcing the winners among 76 entries for 2021, the 2020 #BeActive Awards winners were welcomed on stage to share their experiences and activities - Petra Preradovica Primary school from Croatia (Education), House of Code from Denmark (Workplace) and Tomas Slavata from Czech Republic (Local Hero). The participants also heard the inspiration story by Jorge Pina from Portugal, one of the #BeActive Local Hero Award recipient and ambassador of the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign.

The award recipients for the 2021 #BeActive Awards are: TSV Neuried from Germany (Education), iData from Hungary (Workplace) and Alo Looke from Estonia (Local Hero).

The ceremony was held in-person at the Steigenberg Wiltcher’s Hotel in Brussels, as well as broadcast live online, and was moderated by Ms Mared Jones.

The following day, representatives of the national coordinating bodies and official partners of the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign met in Brussels, reviewing this year’s global and local activities. The 2021 activities engaged over 6,7 million participants through almost 41 thousand events held across the continent.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) has been recognised as one of the most active partners this year. Celebrating the European Week of Sport with the #BeActive campaign and the International Day of Sport with the #LetsIDUS campaign, EUSA together with its members, recorded over 1100 events in 25 countries, engaging over 140.000 participants throughout Europe.
