Australian University Games 2014

The 22nd Australian University Games which took place last week in Sydney, attracted 7100 participants from 41 universities across Australia. The university teams competed in 32 different sport disciplines on the sports venues in the city, the majority them at the Sydney Olympic Park facilities that were also used for the Olympics in 2000.

The UniGames were organised by the Australian University Sports. The University of Sydney won 17 out of the 77 gold medals and was crowned winners over defending champions the University of Melbourne, who were hoping to make their three-in-a-row win this year.

At the occasion of the General Assembly of Oceania University Sports Association (OUSA), Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General also visited the some of the sports events during the Games and participated at the Opening Ceremony. Mr Pecovnik also met with the members of the Organising Committee. The meeting was a perfect occasion to share the experience of the recently organised European Universities Games in Rotterdam and the UniGames in Australia. Mr Pecovnik, together with Mr Laurent Briel, FISU Director of Development and NUSF Relations, also participated in the board meeting of the Australian University Sport, which was held at the same time in Sydney.
