AUSF forges forward in challenging times

One of EUSA’s members, the Albanian University Sport Federation, has found several innovative ways to keep both student-athletes, assembly members and other stakeholders engaged despite activities being restricted by COVID-19.

As in most countries across the continent, sports events in Albania were heavily restricted amid the Coronavirus outbreak, yet the AUSF developed a number of activities to include its members via online platforms, participation in initiatives of social importance while also promoting various challenges with students, lecturers and members of each assembly.

The association made good use of their social media networks, with Yoga instructors and AUSF staff offering online yoga sessions for all students and other interested participants.

A variety of physical exercises were performed at home and shared among students all over Albania on the AUSF’s social networks as well, providing entertainment and inspiration for many during isolation. This was done in conjunction with the #BeActiveAtHome campaign, initiated by the European Commission.

An initiative was also undertaken to include universities across the country called "One day for One University", where on a daily basis, a different university was featured on AUSF’s social media channels, highlighting the university’s activities and achievements.

The AUSF also took concrete action in the health sector, joining the initiative of state institutions to donate blood for children with Thalassemia. The AUSF also joined the ‘Steps for Autism’ initiative, standing in solidarity with autistic persons by participating in this campaign which required 8000 steps to be registered from home. The campaign enjoyed enormous support from AUSF members and students and a wide social media presence.

A WhatsApp group was also created for all AUSF assembly members, in which information was constantly communicated and sports and intellectual challenges were developed, helping create a solid network and pleasant moments of fun and synergy between members.

Member meetings

In terms of returning to physical action on the sports field, the AUSF will await the decision from the Ministry of Health to conclude four national university championships which had been ongoing before the outbreak of the pandemic.
