ASA Winter Games 2016

Academic Sports Association - ASA Israel organised the 31th international Windsurfing and anniversary 20th ASA Winter Games in Eilat between March 13 and 16, 2016. All the Universities in Israel took part in the Games and most of the biggest colleges.

Over 1.100 students from 25 Universities and Colleges from all over Israel were engaged in the event, competing and volunteering. ASA efforts in gender equality resulted in over 30% female participation.

Beach Volleyball at ASA Winter Games

The participants enjoyed great weather with temperature average of 20° C, reflecting great winter in Israel's southernmost city which is a very popular resort on the north beach of the Red sea.

Cross Country

The Games included 14 sports and event: Wind Surfing, Mountain Biking, Aquathlon (Run/Swim/Run), Open Water Swimming, Cross Country Running, Beach Volleyball, 3x3 Basketball, Karate, Futsal, Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash, Chess and Debate. For the first time an official tournament was held in collaboration with the Israeli Volleyball Association and the futsal event witnessed record participation of 20 men's teams and 12 women's teams. Wind Surfing saw participation of Shahar Tzuberi, the Bronze Olympic Medallist from 2008.

Chess

The event also included a Sport Leadership conference for students. The conference was held in cooperation with the national Union of Israeli Students and the Ministry of Sport.

Opening of the conference

The opening session of the conference was lead by Mr Victor Hadad, President of ASA Israel in attendance of Deputy Manager of Sports Administration and other guests.
