ASA Games in Eilat

The Academic Sport Association of Israel (ASA) organises the traditional ASA Games from March 8-10, 2010 in Eilat (ISR). This year, the games are held in 14 different sports.

 

The Opening Ceremony took place on Sunday, March 7, 2010. Mr Arie Rosenzweig, the President of the Academic Sport Association of Israel (ASA), welcomed more than 1500 participants from 25 universities and colleges that will compete on the event, among them also students from neighbouring Jordania.

Mr Rosenzweig especially thanked invited guests Mr Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA President, Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General, Mr Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary General, Mr Meir Yitzhak Halevi, Mayor of Eilat and General Mr Monsour Abu Rashid, the Chairman of the Amman Center for Peace & Development for their presence at the ceremony.

 

Invited guests


Mr Gualtieri welcomed the students and thanked the ASA President and the Mayor of Eilat for the invitation and hospitality. He stressed the importance of university sport in efforts to build a better world and peaceful future. Mr Gualtieri also presented the EUSA Plaques to Mr Rosenzweig, Mr Halevi and Mr Rashid.

Welcome addresses were also given by the Mayor of Eilat and the FISU Secretary General. After that the participants enjoyed an interesting cultural program.

On Monday morning Mr Rosenzweig, in the presence of invited guests, also opened the Leadership Conference, organised in Eilat at the same time.
