Armenian Universities Games 2014 concluded

The 15th Armenian Universities Games finished by a woman futsal championship that was held on 11-17th of November. There were 6 teams participating in the championship and the first place was won by the YSU team, second Armenian State Pedagogical University and the third were Armenian-Russian University.

The sport manager of Armenian Students Sport Federation (ArmSSF) Mr Hovhannes Gabrielyan informed that the event was very interesting and that they are trying to develop futsal in Armenia.

Mr Gabrielyan also noted that the 15th edition of the students sport games was remarkable by both the number of participants and as a number of sport events.

Judo Championship

This year, they introduced new sports - shooting and judo championships - for the first time.

Altogether, more than 3500 participants participated in the Games from 21 public and private Armenian universities. 12 championships were organized covering 9 sports. The Games were organized by the cooperation of Armenian Student Sports Federation, Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia and Armenian Youth Federation.

Volleyball at the Games

This year additional attention was given on the high qualifications of the referees. In all sports there was cooperation with the national federations that held the championships on a high level.

Basketball

The 4th award ceremony of the best students-athletes will be held shortly. Also the Armenian chess players that got high scores and brought home medals from the World University Chess Championship will be awarded at that occasion.

Futsal champions

Armenian Student Sports Federation is actively involved in projects of International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the European University Sports Associations (EUSA).

Volunteer programme

In cooperation with FISU a volunteer program is being run, supported also by the Youth Foundation of Armenia. In cooperation with EUSA, the first European Universities Chess Championship will be held between October 6 and 10 in Yerevan, Armenia.
