ADH General Assembly held in Hamburg
Within the frame of the parliamentary part of the 114th general assembly of the German University Sports Federation (ADH) held in Hamburg on Novemer 17-18, representatives of the higher education member institutions present have given the official starting signal for an application for the Summer Universiade 2025 in the Rhine Ruhr region.
The voting result of 95.4 percent in favour of bidding for the second largest international multi-sports event is a strong backing for all measures carried out so far in this context. With this impressive result, delegates also provided the next milestone to an official application for the pinnacle event of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
"With this vote, the federation has underlined that it has recognised the prospects and opportunities for university sport in Germany arising from an application for the Summer Universiade. The vote is a strong mark of confidence in the board and the branch office as both have systematically pushed the process forward in a transparent way to keep all of our member universities on the same track over the last few months. Therefore, we can all celebrate this result, which gives us a vital momentum for the next steps", said Joerg Foerster, ADH chairman.
The participants also made a proposal to include the principle of sustainable action for the protection of future generations in the mission statement and statute of the ADH. Also the bid for the 2025 Universiade will have a special focus on the area of sustainability.
At the Assembly, Ms Michele Pergande, sports lecturer at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, received the Honorary Award of the Executive Board for her strong commitment to right-wing extremism in and through sport. In addition to Ms Pergande, Mr Axel Bauer from the University of Gottingen has been appointed ADH honorary member for his decades of successful work in German university sports and ADH.
