ADH General Assembly held in Augsburg
Almost 140 delegates came together for the General Assembly of the German University Sports Association (ADH) on November 23 and 24. The event was held at the University of Augsburg, delegates representing over 80 out of 192 Universities who are ADH members. Highlights were the parliamentary part and the tribute to the best athletes as well as the University of the Year 2014.
During the meeting of the executive board a positive preliminary summary was drawn due to the successful work. In his welcome address, State Secretary Mr Bernd Sibler stressed that sport is an essential part of university life. ADH President Mr Felix Arnold pointed out the importance of the ‘Tandem-Mentoring’ project to support women in university sport in Germany.
Along the way, representatives of the regions met to discuss the educational progress on a regional level, but also the marketing strategies. To improve the inside networking, advantages, problems and motivations were discussed stressing on grassroot sports and events. Looking back on recent events the successful results during the European Universities Games 2014 in Rotterdam were presented, specifically praising the great job of the ADH-support-team.
At the Assembly also the Organisers of the European Universities Rowing Championship in Hannover presented current progress. ADH also accepted a new member - the Stuttgart University of Technology. As a guest speaker, Ms Hester de Vries from the Student Sports Association the Netherlands (SSN) talked about the possibilities in international university sports. Especially for students there are many options through cooperation of universities on an international level.
The Assembly was also the occasion to present the awards. Among the recipients was also the University of Bochum, which was awarded with the title of University of the year honouring the progress of their university sports program including the participation of two teams at the European Universities Games Rotterdam 2014.
As a cultural entertainment participants were invited to visit the world famous puppet theatre.
