ADH Assembly in Kassel brings new leadership

By a large majority, Dr. Katrin Werkmann was elected the new chairwoman of the German University Sports Federation (ADH) at their 111th General Assembly last weekend in Kassel.

After the resignation of her predecessor, Mr Felix Arnold, Mrs Werkmann had already taken over the ADH board temporarily in the beginning of July 2016. ADH Assembly also adopted new statutes and organisation structure.

The General Assembly at the University of Kassel set the course for the future of the German University Sports Federation. The event was preceeded by a seminar on the importance of media and communication, the Assembly also had sports and social parts and concluded with a Gala.

The new President Mrs Werkmann was given the mandate for another two years in office. The former professional sportswoman and graduate of a double degree in business administration and sports had been responsible for the Human Resources and Finance department of the ADH since 2015.

Mr Jörg Förster, head of Hamburg University Sports, who already belonged to the board from 2013 to 2015, will now be taking over this field. Mrs Juliane Bötel (University of Hamburg), Mr Nikola Franic (University of Marburg), Dirk Kilian (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences) and Mr David Storek (University of Luneburg) were elected to the other four executive board positions.

Recognition and Thanks for Mr Bernd Lange

Another major issue at the General Assembly was the adoption of the ADH charter and the related new structure of the German University Sports Federation. The main objective of the reform was a simplified participation opportunity as well as greater flexibility concerning decision-making processes. For that reason, several existing committees and councils were revised and partly reshaped.

At the ocassion of the Assembly, also some special recognitions and awards were presented. Mr Bernd Lange was named Honorary member for his contribution and services. At the special gala, several awards were also presented, including the best male athlete - Johannes Ursprung and Katrin Thoma as the best female athlete of the year.
