2021 European Classic Powerlifting Cup a great success

The European University Sports Association was present in Merignac, France following the conclusion of the highly successful 2021 European Open University Classic Powerlifting Cup.
Now in it’s second edition, the event organised by the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) and French Powerlifting Federation (FPF) under the patronage of EUSA brought together 55 of the best student-athlete powerlifters from 13 countries across Europe, including 27 male and 28 female participants.
Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Powerlifting Federation last year, EUSA Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan was in attendance at the three-day event, which took place from August 26-28. Amid the various invited guests and delegates was EUSA member and president of the French University Sports Federation, Mr Cedric Terret, who took time to meet with Mr Zvan to discuss various aspects of university sport.
Mr Zvan not only observed the event, but was also able to meet with representatives from both the International and European Powerlifting Federations, where the possibility of including powerlifting in future EUSA competitions was discussed.
The action over the three days of competition was of the highest level, with numerous records set, one of the highlights being a new world deadlift record achieved by Yanis Bouchou from France’s University of Lyon, who managed to lift 331kg in the -83kg category.
After tallying the points across all the women’s events, it was a clean sweep for French universities, with University of Grenoble placing first, University of Paris finishing second and University of Lyon claiming third place.
In the men’s division, Spain’s University of Cadiz ended on top, followed by University of Paris in second and University of Grenoble in third.
