2020 #BeActive Award winners announced
The winners of the 2020 #BeActive awards were announced at an online ceremony on Tuesday, December 8, recognising the excellent work conducted by organisations and individuals in their communities.
The competition, which forms a central part of the annual European Week of Sport and #BeActive campaign of which EUSA is a partner, was created to support projects and individuals dedicated to the promotion of sport and physical activity across Europe.
A virtual ceremony gathered all members, partners and stakeholders of the #BeActive campaign, as well as all the finalists of the three awards on offer, for which a record 95 submissions had been received.
Following introductory remarks from Ms Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Mr Tomasz Frankowski, Member of the European Parliament, Co-Chair of the Sports Group, the winner of the #BeActive Education Award was announced, as Primary School Petra Preradovica from Croatia received the €10 000 prize.
Thereafter, a testimony from 2019 #BeActive Education Award winner School in Motion was heard, as well as an encouraging message from 2020 #BeActive Awards Jury Member and EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, who led by example and lived out the #BeActive slogan by delivering his message while riding on a stationary bike.
The #BeActive Workplace Award winner was then announced, with Denmark’s House of Code claiming the prize, while this year’s #BeActive Local Hero Award was handed to Czech Republic’s Tomas Slavata.
The online audience was also treated to a unique sports show which combined ballet with BMX, before Ms Gabriel concluded the event, congratulating all winners and thanking all contributors to this year’s #BeActive campaign.
#BeActive ambassadors, partner and stakeholders then met online on Wednesday, December 9 for a debrief on this year’s European Week of Sport.
EUSA had also engaged with and promoted several EWOS events, forming part of the more than 15 million participants who took part in over 32 000 events in over 40 different countries across Europe. These numbers were highly impressive, considering the various lockdown measures and restrictions in place due to COVID-19, with many successful virtual events being organised as well.
Good practice examples were shared, while the 2020 #BeActive social media campaign and its success were presented and analysed, before future plans, campaigns and activities were discussed.
