2019-2023 FISU Executive Committee elected
The International University Sports Federation (FISU) held its 36th General Assembly in Turin, Italy, as a new Executive Committee was elected amid celebrations of the association’s 70th anniversary.
Taking place in the founding city of university sport, the General Assembly gathered the federation’s member countries to vote in new leadership, present FISU’s new visual identity, accept a new member and award those who excelled over the past period.
On day one, the Federation’s new visual identity was unveiled, which will only be made available to the public in January, following which Timor Leste from Asia was welcomed as FISU’s 174th newest member.
To commemorate the late first FISU President Mr Primo Nebiolo, five individuals and one organisation were presented medals in his honour as Giovanna Nebiolo (spouse of Primo Nebiolo), Konstantin Anastassov (FISU Emeritus Honorary Member), Roch Campana (FISU Honorary Secretary General), Julio Maglione (FINA President, medallist during first Summer Universiade), Claude-Louis Gallien (former FISU President, Emeritus Honorary Member), and an institution (Centro Universitario Sportivo Torino) received their awards, while American pole vaulter Bridget Guy was awarded the Fair Play Award for her act of generosity and friendship during the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade.
The official discharge of the FISU Executive Committee after serving their four-year term then took place, before the 174 FISU member associations elected a new executive committee on the second day of the assembly, with 44 candidates vying for 23 executive member positions.
Mr Oleg Matytsin was re-elected as FISU’s President, while the FISU First Vice-President, Treasurer and Senior Executive Committee Member positions were also appointed by acclamation, with Mr Leonz Eder (SUI), Mr Bayasgalan Danzandorj (MGL) and Ms Verena Burk (GER) continuing in their positions until 2023.

A glamourous 4th FISU Gala Ceremony concluded the event’s proceedings, where a number of individuals and organisations were awarded for their efforts across the past year. 2019. Big winners on the night, among others, included athletes Kim Alang and Armin Hadipour Seighalani, who won the prestigious Best Female and Best Male Athlete of The Year awards respectively; the University of Torino which won the Best University Award while Japan was recognised as the best NUSF.
