2017 African 3x3 Basketball Championship

It was all fun and excitement as 84 athletes forming 21 teams from 11 Universities, representing 4 countries and 3 of the 5 zones of Africa gathered together on April 29 and 30 in Nairobi, Kenya for the 2nd Afro-Varsity 3x3 Basketball Challenge.

The event, which is also a qualifier for the FISU 3x3 World University League 2017, was opened by Mr Paul Tiyambe Zeleza, Vice Chancellor of the host - United States International University – Africa (USIU-A), who encouraged students to use sports as a vehicle for promotion of unity and development of Africa.

Ralethe Malumbete

Mr Malumbete Ralethe, President of Federation of Africa University Sport (FASU), rallied the athletes and students to take the lead role in the management of their activities. He emphasized the point that all of them form an integral part in the development of Africa at large and university sports in general.

Female tournament

The 2 day event offered male and female students opportunity not only to compete, but also socialise and interact.

Male tournament

Institute of Entrepreneurship and Management (ISEG) from Senegal won both tournaments.

Medallists - female

Together with Makerere University (MAK) and Uganda Christian University (UCU) from Uganda, the four teams qualified to represent Africa at the 3x3 FISU World University League Final, to he held September 14-17 in Xiamen, China.

Medallists - male

European teams will be able to qualify at the European Universities 3x3 Basketball Championship which will be held in Split, Croatia this summer.
