2015 FASU Elective General Assembly in Addis Ababa
The General Assembly of FASU, the Federation of Africa University Sports, was held in Addis Ababa, the Capital of Ethiopia on February 14, 2015 and was attended by 24 members out of the total membership of 26 countries. This was considered as a huge success for FASU and its Executive Committee.
During the Assembly, FASU President Dr Malumbete Ralethe welcomed the delegates and guests, among them also EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek and Vice-President Mr Leonz Eder. In his welcome address, Mr Roczek highlighted the close relation and cooperation between EUSA and FASU.
He underlined the regular exchange of ideas and programs, and he stressed the fact that the collaboration between the two Continental University Sport Federations of Europe and Africa will be even more important in the future. The EUSA representatives presented gifts to both the FASU leadership and the President of the Ethiopian Public Universities Sports Association, thanking them for the invitation and hospitality.
The statutory reports such as report from the President, activity report from the Secretary General and financial report were accepted by the delegates. The GA approved Ivory Coast as new member and the amendments to the statutes and internal regulations and adopted the budget for the next period.
As the main topic of the Assembly, elections of the new Executive Committee received high attention. Initially four candidates presented their interest for FASU presidency while two of them later withdrew their candidacies. The former President, Mr Malumbete Ralethe (RSA) was reelected. The Assembly elected Mr Aelected Saasi Ghedir (ALG) as 1st Vice President and Mr Jacob Nteere as 2nd Vice President. Mrs Peninnah Kabenge (UGA) was reelected Secretary General. The new Treasurer is Mr Ibrahim Bangura (SLE) and Mr Liberty Maidza (ZIM) will act as Internal Auditor.
EUSA President Mr Roczek was asked to be the Chairman of the observers during the elections. FASU General Assembly also nominated the former FASU President Hassan Chikh (ALG) and the former Secretary General Shadrack Adeoti (NIG) as Honorary Members.
