16th COE Conference of Ministers continues

On Friday, January 15, as part of the series of online events making up the 16th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for sport, a Ministerial Round Table session was held, with members of the Consultative committee of EPAS, including the European University Sports Association (EUSA), present at the event as well.

The online event was attended by over 160 participants, including Ministers, Secretaries of State and top leaders from different sports organisations, who made their statements on the two major themes of the conference: the revision of the European Sports Charter and Human Rights in Sport.

Many delegations referred to the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on sports and local communities. They also reiterated that ensuring human rights in sport is even more important than ever.

The event was chaired by the Greek Deputy Minister for Sport, Mr Lefteris Avgenakis, and assisted by EPAS Executive Secretary Mr Stanislas Frossard.

According to Mr Avgenakis, the discussion “reflected the diversity of the world of sport in Europe, at intergovernmental level as well as among non-governmental organisations. I note there is strong support for the resolutions and much appreciation for the work of the Council of Europe in the field of sport”.
