15th ODUCC Games in Panama

Under the leadership of ODUCC President Sonia Stapf, the University Sports Federation of Panama and the University of Panama organised the 15th edition of the Central American and Caribbean University Sports Games, for the first time in the city of Panama.

EUSA was invited to delegate a guest to the event, which was followed by the General Assembly of ODUCC, university sports body of the Central American and Caribbean region on the territory of the FISU America (former ODUPA). During the Games from August 16-22, ODUCC also organised round table discussions on several topics.

International guests

European University Sports Association was represented by its Vice President Leonz Eder. Other international university sport representatives were present in Panama as well, including FISU Vice President Luciano Cabral and FISU Assessors Rosaura Mendez, Marian Dymalski and Chen-Tai Cheng. During the Opening Ceremony in the Roberto Durán Indoor stadium with a seating capacity of 25000 people, a lot of political, academic and sports authorities were present, such as Carlo Staff, Vice Minister of education, Gustavo García de Paredes, Rector of the University of Panama and Camilo Amado, President of the Olympic Committee of Panama. EUSA Vice-President used this opportunity to talk to them, explaining them the role and functioning of EUSA.

During the round table discussions with representatives from different Central American and Caribbean countries, Mr Eder had a chance to greet them on behalf of EUSA president Adam Roczek and to present the system and operation of the governing continental university sport body in Europe, including statistics of the growing competition and educational program of EUSA. He also handed over the EUSA plaquette to the Vice rector of the University of Panama, Mr Eldis Barnes.

Around 500 students from 12 countries, namely Bonaire, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba, Curacao, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela participated at this edition of the ODUCC Games. The program of the games included 11 sports – Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Futsal, Karate, Swimming, Table Tennis and Volleyball.
