Successful Move Week 2014
The 2014 pan-European Move Week was held between September 29 to October 5 and managed more than triple the number of events compared to last year. Move Week was dedicated to celebrating sport, recreation and physical activity in its widest meaning.
While the final count is still to be made, the preliminary data shows 4,256 events in more than 1,000 cities across 38 countries organised by 2,357 local organisers who managed to move over 1 million participants.
“It goes without saying but this has by far been the most successful Move Week in the history of the NowWeMOVE Campaign. We have shown that when dedicated people all pull in the same direction it actually is possible to get people in the millions moving. I want to thank the thousands of Move Agents and volunteers that took upon themselves to make the Europeans move more.” ISCA Secretary General, Jacob Schouenborg, said.
Several organisations and institutions also from the field of university sport organised and joined the Move Week activities within the campaign coordinated by the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) in collaboration with the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) and supported by the European Union in the framework of the Erasmus+ Sport Support for Not-for-profit European Sport Events. Support from the same fund was also received for the project of the European Universities Games Rotterdam 2014.
